About Primavera
Teenager doing Puzzle
What is Primavera Online High School?

Primavera Online High School is an alternative public charter school that offers its courses entirely over the internet. Primavera provides core and elective courses that engage and motivate all students, and all courses are accessible any time of day from anywhere in the world.

How did it start?

Primavera Online High School started as a brick-and-mortar charter school in 2001. In 2003, Primavera became a virtual school and is now one of the largest high schools in Arizona, serving thousands of students statewide.

Is Primavera accredited?

Yes! Primavera Online High School is accredited by the North Central Association (NCA). This accrediting agency ensures that Primavera's curriculum meets or exceeds all state and national standards and that you're getting a high quality education.

How long has it been in business?

Primavera Online High School has been in operation since 2001 and continues to grow each and every year.

Is it only an online school?

All courses offered by Primavera Online High School are entirely online, and they are accessible any time of day, anywhere in the world.

Who makes up the student body?

Like any traditional school, the Primavera student body is extremely diverse. We cater to excelling honor students, working students, young parents, previously home schooled students, students with a heavy extracurricular schedule, at-risk students and students who simply prefer to take their high school courses over the internet.

What percentage of online graduates goes on to college?

A large majority of our graduating students go on to post-secondary education. Recent surveys conducted on our graduates indicate that two out of every three graduates continue their education in a post-secondary environment. We have students that have gone on to all three major state schools and other universities throughout the country.

What is a charter school?

Charter schools have emerged as a promising way to raise academic standards, empower educators, and actively involve parents and communities in a powerful public education. A charter school is a public school that has developed an educational program different from traditional schools, and even operates under somewhat different State rules and regulations, thereby allowing the charter school greater flexibility to try different and innovative instructional approaches. Although charter schools are free from certain traditional regulations, they must comply with federal regulations involving civil rights, IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Act) and others.

What advantages are there to an online high school versus a traditional high school?

Primavera Online High School offers a level of flexibility that many traditional schools cannot integrate into their own classes, and the online environment is perfect for students who are motivated to learn. Primavera allows students to focus on fewer classes than at a traditional school so that they can learn the subject matter at hand thoroughly before moving on to another subject matter. The online environment also allows parents instant access to their child’s courses so that they can see how their child is doing in live time. There are less negative influences in an online school than at a traditional school as well. Students do not have to deal with bullying or other forms of peer pressure.

Are you only in Arizona?

Primavera’s charter is for the state of Arizona.

Who is eligible to attend Primavera Online High School?

Any Arizona high school student between the ages of 14 and 21 years old is eligible for the free online education program.

What is an enrollment type?

A student’s enrollment type is determined by their eligibility and enrollments with other Arizona schools.

Full Time Enrollment
These students attend only Primavera Online High School, and will be required to participate in AIMS testing, unless previous results of a passing score are submitted. Full Time enrollment at Primavera is for students in 9th through 12th grade who meet the required attendance guidelines (one lesson per day, per class, 5 days a week).

Concurrent Enrollment
These students are enrolled at Primavera while attending another Arizona High School. Concurrent enrollment at Primavera is for students in 9th through 12th grade who meet the required attendance guidelines (one lesson per day, per class, 5 days a week).

If I am 18, but live at home, does a parent still have to enroll me?

No, students aged 18 years or older may enroll themselves. However, Primavera does request to have parent information on file for students residing at home.

What if I was expelled from my last school?

If you were expelled from your previous school, please contact us to discuss the possibility of enrolling at Primavera Online High School. Our goal is to help every student succeed, and students are expected to take their education with Primavera seriously.

Do I need to withdraw from my previous school to enroll at Primavera Online High School?

Primavera has several enrollment options. Most of Primavera’s students take all of their classes with Primavera which makes this their “home school.” If you are currently taking any high school classes at another school, that school is your “home school.” If you intend to continue classes at your current school, but also take courses with Primavera, you become a “concurrent” student. To enroll as a full-time Primavera student, choose “full-time” when you apply. If you plan to attend another school while also taking courses with Primavera, choose “part-time” when you apply.

Application Information
Enroll via Computer
Are there deadlines to enroll?

Yes, Primavera sets deadlines to enroll for a specific block during the school year. The application must be completely and accurately filled out and all required documents must be submitted by this deadline in order for enrollment to be accepted for the desired block. The reason for these deadlines is to ensure each student is given a fair chance at course assignment and completion based on a 6 week plan.

Where do I find deadlines to enroll?

The application deadlines are listed on the application beneath each block.

What happens if I miss an enrollment deadline?

If an application deadline is missed, applicants may still complete and submit an application by choosing the next available block.

What does open enrollment mean?

Open enrollment means that we are always accepting applications. Since Primavera Online High School offers classes that start every few weeks, we can constantly add new students to each block.

If I attended Primavera Online High School in the past, how do I re-enroll?

Returning Primavera students should log on to the online application using the username and password assigned to them during their last enrollment. If a student cannot remember their username and password they should contact an enrollment counselor at enrollmentcounselor@primaveratech.org.

How do I know if my school allows Concurrent Enrollment?

To find out if your school allows concurrent enrollment with another Arizona High School, contact your District Office.

Can I attend a state university once I graduate from Primavera?

Each University can have different requirements for accepting students for enrollment. Primavera’s scholastic diploma meets state requirements and will help students gain acceptance to most state universities. We recommend to all students planning on attending a state or private university to call and speak with the admissions department to find out what their requirements are and plan your high school diploma choice accordingly.

Do I need to speak with someone to complete enrollment?

No, you do not have to speak with someone to complete enrollment. Primavera has set up fluid processes to allow parents and students to apply online, submit the required documents, and wait for course assignment without making a phone call.

Who needs to fill out the Online Enrollment Application?

We recommend that a parent fills out the online application to ensure all required information is entered correctly. Incorrect information can delay the enrollment process, and some of the information requested is not common knowledge to most students.

Who can get information about my account?

Primavera adheres to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Student account information will only be released to a parent and/or legal guardian. If there is a family member or other individual that should be able to obtain or supply information on a student, that individual’s name and permission must be submitted in writing to Primavera by the student’s parent or legal guardian.

Can I restrict permission on who can get information about my account?

Students under the age of 18 cannot restrict access to their account information. Parents and/or legal guardians may restrict access to a student account by submitting a certified letter stating a specific person is not allowed to ask, receive, or submit information about the student.

What grade levels do you serve?

We currently serve grades 9 through 12.

Are you a correspondence school?

No. By definition, a correspondence school requires students to complete work on paper or in workbooks and mail it to the school. Typically these schools are out of state. Primavera is located in Arizona, and while there are some assignments that you may need to send in via postal mail, the majority of your work is completed online.

Technology
Computer
Will I need to install anything on my computer to take Primavera classes?

For the most part, no. Primavera classes are completely internet-based. However, the courses have some interactive multimedia aspects that require that your system have Java and Flash Player installed and cookies enabled. Most user systems already have these items installed, so you may not have to do anything to your computer to get started.

What if I have dial up service?

You can still take classes with a dial-up connection. You may find that some activities are slower, but you should be able to get access to most of Primavera Online High School’s curriculum.
